After proclaiming herself 'not creative' for many years, Kat went on one of her winter travels to Colombia in 2011 and although she went as a musician armed with her mini-cello, she ended up being completely inspired by the local "artisanos" who sold their macrame and wire wares on the streets each night.

She was taught literally there on the side of dusty Colombian streets, and by the time she left 5 months later, she was completely obsessed with metals and wires. She began selling her jewellery quite early on once she returned to Jersey, and now, ten years later, she owns and runs Mariposa Creative – a play on the Spanish and English mix that she still feels throughout her work.

After the birth of her first daughter in 2014, she suddenly realised that she could no longer hammer metal at night once her baby was asleep, so she frantically searched for a silent creative process that she could do instead. Finally she went back to the macrame techniques she was taught many years earlier in Colombia.

Since that time, Kat has created a completely different sub-genre of jewellery making that she nicknamed "Macrame and Metal". She forges and wraps the metal elements from wire, and then incorporates beautiful crystals and hand-weaves micro-macrame around it to make stunning collars, amulets, pendants and earrings.

With a love of crystals and colours, Kat's work continues to grow. She loves weaving intention and meaning into her pieces with the use of special gemstones and symbols, and happily takes commissions for a special event or day.
