Nicky started pottery as a hobby in 2021 and it was nothing more than a weekly expedition to Highlands and lots of wobbly, and mostly misshapen, pots. However towards the end of 2023, she received some guidance and lessons from a wonderful fellow potter that changed everything.

The pots started to get substantially better and she got the pottery bug. Subsequently she has set up a studio in the garden shed, has her own wheel and kiln, and is often found in the shed pottering away!

Nicky loves her garden and her work to date has principally been making vases that suit the flowers in her garden. Often there is one beautiful bloom which needs a vase to show it off to best effect and Nicky has found that a simple shaped vases with a small neck or opening on its own or in a group is a wonderful way to display the flowers. Pottery is a journey with endless design possibilities, taking new shapes, colours and forms of decoration everyday. As her work evolves, Nicky is loving the path it is taking her on more than ever.

Nicky’s work can be seen on Instagram @pen.guin.potters and if you’d like to view her work in person you can make an appointment to visit her studio. Nicky will also be attending local markets and will be posting details of these on her Instagram account.
