Phil is primarily a fine art seascape photographer with interests in other genres of photography, who is always ready to explore and learn new possibilities within his work.

Having been influenced by local photographers Ron Weiss and Joe Bates when he first arrived in Jersey and more recently Gareth Syvret who was the Photographic Archivist of the Society Jersiaise, David Hockney, Martin Parr and many others. He takes inspiration from where he is and who he comes across on a daily basis.

Over the last few years his style has changed somewhat and now his main focus is using an ‘Intentional Camera Movement’ technique which he is still developing and exploring. This style allows him the opportunity to transform the mundane into something magically unique, where he finds a kind of magic happens in the process. But not forgetting his representation style he has become knowing for.

He is drawn to capturing the seascapes with living on an Island, observing the constant flux of the shoreline throughout the day and year which gives him the perfect opportunity to respond to the tension and drama found in the costal landscape.

This year has been a defining moment in Phil’s photographic journey, which led him to apply for the Genuine Jersey Membership, and his body of work he will show, will be of Jerseys wonderful seascapes which come under the umbrella title: A Costal Stroll, which has now formed into a forever project, where he can add as he explores the coast line with fresh eyes.

Artist’s statement; 'Seeking the Unseen'

Light is the most important part of the process for him, looking for colour, playing with form, texture and movement. Where solitude, tranquillity and stillness fills the composition.
