Classic Jersey Brie has been awarded a silver medal at this year’s British Cheese Awards.  It is the first time Classic Herd has won at the awards which are held as part of British Cheese Week (1-7 October).

867 cheeses from 175 cheese makers entered this year’s awards which were judged by 60 cheese experts.  Classic Jersey Brie beat off stiff competition from 79 other cheeses in the New Cheese category to win its award.

Julia Quenault from Classic Herd said: “This is our first silver award and we are very pleased to have achieved it.  We’re increasingly facing tougher competition as there are now so many British cheeses being made regionally so we’re delighted to have got this award.  Our next project will be to start making a feta type cheese and a semi-hard like Wensleydale.”

In June, Classic’s Brie made it to the final of Tesco’s Cheese Challenge.  Earlier this year, Classic’s Camembert and Golden Blue both won bronze medals at the World Cheese Awards.
