A POULTRY farm in St John has chosen designs produced by the Island’s primary school children for use on its packaging for eggs and meat.
Genuine Jersey member Le Marinel Farm invited all primary schools to create labels for egg boxes as well as packaging for chicken, guinea fowl, duck and turkey meat.
Hundreds of entries were received and the results were judged yesterday by a panel made up of representatives from Genuine Jersey and Le Marinel Farm, along with Pat Robson from the Art in the Frame Foundation.
St John’s School is also the overall winner has been awarded a special prize. After the Easter holidays, one class will be given an egg incubator with a batch of fertile eggs to hatch out. The children will then be invited to Le Marinel to hand over the chicks and receive a guided tour.
The farm is run by Christine Joshua and Nick Barber. It is a traditional Jersey farmhouse and smallholding, producing free-range eggs and poultry meat including chicken, guinea fowl, duck and turkey. It also has an orchard of fruit trees.
The best of the competition entries – including designs from Beaulieu Primary and FCJ – can be viewed at The Elms, National Trust for Jersey, on Easter Saturday. The event is being held in conjunction with Jersey Tourism on 7th April.

- Le Marinel will use the winning design of Simmi Le Feuvre, aged 7 from Grouville School, on its egg boxes. Simmi wins a class at Claire Lyons’ Minichefs School.
- The design of Kelly Mairead McCullagh from class 6 at St John’s School will be used on the farm’s poultry packaging and its van. Kelly wins an activity voucher for £50 from Pure Adventure.
- Le Marinel’s van will also carry the design of runner-up Bronte Mercier, aged 8, from St John’s School. Bronte wins a voucher or holiday workshop at Art in the Frame.
