The producer of a range of handmade glassware has become the latest member of the Genuine Jersey Products Association.
Glass Art Design is run from a small studio in Samarès Manor by Julie Bolton who creates a variety of glass products to her own unique design, including jewellery, sculptures and tiles. Julie’s main area of expertise is in kilnwork, employing methods of glass making that are part of a tradition dating back as far as the Egyptian period.
Julie set up Glass Art Design after completing a degree in glass making at Wolverhampton University, something that she had been inspired to do after taking part in a glass making course at Highlands.
Julie says, “After completing my courses, I realised that I wanted to bring the beauty of glass design to Jersey. Although I have to import most of the glass, all of the design and manipulation is done here in Jersey. I believe that the Genuine Jersey designation will raise not only the profile of my own work but also that of Jersey crafts in general. There are some fantastic artists in the Island and organisations like Genuine Jersey help them get the recognition that their skill deserves.”
Glass Art Design is not alone in becoming a new member. Rosemary Blackmore who designs and manufactures a range of textiles and ceramics from her home and pH Art which manufactures Zig Zaw puzzles (puzzles and cards that feature photographs of local scenes and which can be exported worldwide), have also recently joined.
